Detective Alex Wright of the Bowling Green Police Department in Kentucky was contacted by a local pawn shop informing him that they had been scammed. A group of individuals had purchased electronics and jewelry with stolen Apple Pay information and after a chargeback, the shop was at a loss of over $2,000. The primary subject had presented a fake ID with his picture but another person’s information. Running that other person’s information through LeadsOnline revealed prior activity under that name as well as a photograph of the suspect. Detective Wright was then able to track the suspects across the country through pawn transactions and ultimately to Las Vegas, NV, where one of the subjects had pawned the items initially purchased from the victim’s shop. Three of the four subjects will be receiving various charges related to the incident.
